My work this week has been in a high stress environment. I underestimated the length of time that my sculpture would take, & the body is difficult to create without fucking up. Also, I have critique on Monday/Tuesday. Not taking the risk of rushing the drying process so I'm just going to have to show this work ~unfinished~ *gasp*.
Using a new clay body has been interesting. Working through the kinks of it like drying time, grog, the fact that my clay is like butter and refused to hold it's shape for the longest time, and then proceeded to crack while it was still wet as hell.
enough of my whining about this new clay, it really is beautiful. The colour should be a mid toned tan when it's fired to cone 6, -haven't tested it yet- but the slip & score seems to be holding up well.
Also started working from solid (who is she?!) something I never thought I'd do. It's presenting it's own challenged, trying to carve out the interior of a forearm without warping a piece for creating air bubbles might be out of my comfort zone but we shall see how well it works once this bad boy goes into a bisque fire.
Air dry clay, something I thought was beneath me, has been the savior in this project, being able to work on it from home, without filling my house with silica, has been incredibly helpful also it's SO lightweight. Bless up with that.
Side note
- Is it poor craft to make jewelry out of air dry clay? Ya girl needs to make money in these upcoming sales, and this is so much easier than having to fire these in the kiln TWICE.
Anywhoooooo there goes the first blog. happy day happy day.
